February is nationally known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) has designated February as the Bowl for the Cure month organized in conjunction with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

 

Breast Cancer is the leading cause of death among women ages 40-59. The mission of the Susan G. Komen Foundation is to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease through the advancement of research, education, screening and treatment.

 

During the month of February, the Arbor Valley USBC Association is offering the opportunity for association members, through their leagues, to make donation(s) to support this worthy cause. Leagues choosing to participate should send their donations to the Arbor Valley USBC Association, attn: Bowl for the Cure, 2707 Yost Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI. 48104.

 

Suggestions on ways for a league to participate:

 

1.      Donate one week of 50/50 collected.

2.      Donate one week of bowling prize fees.

3.      Donation made by each individual bowler (pass the hat).

4.      Donation made by a league/team.

5.      Run a separate 50/50 for Bowl for the Cure during the month of February.

 

Also, get sponsors to donate so much per pin (example – 1 cent per pin – roll a 539 and get $5.39 donation) or donate a flat figure - $5.00, $10.00 etc. Each league member gets several sponsors.

 

Donations should be sent to the Arbor Valley USBC Association office no later than March 12, 2010. Your efforts in raising funds for this worthy cause are appreciated.
